This is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

If you know a tiny bit (or a lot) about Scandinavia it's bloody brilliant indeed. And for all I know it might be funny to people who don't know anything about Scandinavia as well :)

I know a fair amount about European history and language and this almost made me piss my pants. I imagine a real Scandi would find this simply spectacular!

We do :) Well, some danes might be offended but who cares, they can't even speak properly :P

They're be swearing in anger, but nobody will know what they're bitching about.

Actually, when they swear they are rather easy to understand.. Danish swearing is almost legible,as opposed to everything else in that language :P
Disclaimer: I do understand Danish, and I can even make myself understood in Danish.

That's brilliant!

Nah, I was born in Norway, lived here my whole life, most of us (from the southern half that is) can speak some danish, and even more swedish.

Norway is high on my list of places I want to visit. I've had friends come back and talk about being blown away by the scenery and the people. One day I will drink akevitt and eat lutefisk in Oslo! Aaaaaand then probably get in a fight with some Danes... because that just seems like something that would happen to me.

Nah... stay away from the lutefisk mate, try the rakfisk. Lutefisk is easy to get in the US as well (I'm guessing that's where you live).
As for the people, some love us some hate us. We are perceived as "cold", and for a good reason.. we generally don't socialize unless we've had a beer or five :P That said, we are really friendly once we open up to you.
So, hot tip.. how to speak to a Norwegian; "Hi I'm from so and so country, I like Norway.. can I buy you a beer?"

I'm a Michigander, and we're considered fairly cold people too! The culture of the Northern half of the state is heavily Finn with a smattering of other Scandinavian flavors. The lutefisk here is a culinary adventure, I just feel like that adventure should be enjoyed in the land of it's birth! And I'm definitely going to have to give rakfisk a go! God I love food...

Rumours say that the lutefisk in upper half (of the US that is) is better than what we get here in Norway, not that I believe it.. I just don't like lutefisk :P
Ohh.. and something important.. DO NOT EVER EVER EVER say that Finland is in Scandinavia when visiting Scandinavia.. NEVER. Finland is part of Fennoscandia, but NOT Scandinavia. :)

? Me no understand:)

I'm just surprised that the lutefisk here is allegedly better...
... and also that the border-state of Finland seems to be your version of Mexico! It's part of the club... sort of... depending on who you ask!
![]() 02/04/2015 at 12:57 |

Well.. Mexico is part of NA right? So Finland is part of the Nordic Countries (and Fennoscandia, but Denmark is not in Fennoscandia). Canada is also in NA right, and Iceland is in Nordic, but Estii is not. :P Yeah, it aint easy to understand this if you don't live here.
BUT...
Scandinvia; Sweden, Denmark, Norway
Fennoscandia; Sweden, Norway, Finland, Karelia and the Kola penninsula.
Nordic countries: Sweden, Denmark (and Greenland and Faroe Islands), Norway (including Svalbard), Iceland, Finland and Åland Islands

I see, it's different. And while Mexico is technically in North America, the US and Canada would happily vote them off the island if we could.

I bet you would, but you get my point I guess. Some of us get REALLY salty if you use the wrong term, and I'm not joking either. I do love my friends from Finland, but they are NOT Scandinavians.
I guess the best way to describe it would be like this, you would not say that a non-Québécois Canadian were from Quebec unless you knew him/her really well.

Ooooooh, yeah... those damn French Cannucks. I forgot about those hosers!
